Scope: totals cover the full default-branch history of gldoze/desktop, gldoze/setup, gldoze/docs, gldoze/cef, gldoze/asset-pack. Recent counts, contributors and activity cover 12 calendar weeks, Monday 00:00 UTC through the current week. The website (website repository - deployment commits are not development activity) is excluded. Commit volume is an activity measure, not a measure of quality or completeness.
Recent developments
A hand-written summary of the work that has landed recently — factual, dated and maintained by hand, like the milestones below.
-
1 – 3 November 2026
GLCrypt — the native encryption manager
A new native application for encrypted storage: unlock, mount, lock and key management for LUKS2 volumes and file containers, backed by an extended root helper. The latest commits added the Mount Manager with persistent mount policies, a keyslot inventory with type-the-slot confirmation when a key is written or removed, Unmount and Lock as a single helper operation using one administrator password per session, rescan and missing-device handling, and an Unlock and Mount button that now opens the mount dialog once the volume is unlocked.

25 October – 3 November 2026
Compression and encryption subsystem
GLCommander's archive support grew from the container, codec and tar core into a full pipeline: compress, encrypt and extract from the row context menu, an archive settings panel with expert crypto controls, a full AEAD suite for GLDoze containers (GCM-SIV, ARIA, SM4 and more), LZ4 as the default archive format with a selectable compression level, end-to-end
.tar.lz4extraction coverage, progress reporting with MB/s, elapsed time and ETA, and installer coverage for the archive cipher and compressor runtime dependencies. -
31 October – 3 November 2026
Security and privileged-path hardening
Findings from an adversarial audit were remediated across the tree and re-reviewed, and the privileged LUKS path received dedicated hardening passes covering pinned block devices, loop-device lifecycle and signal handling. The repository security scanner with Gitleaks integration continues to gate every push.
-
26 October – 2 November 2026
Login, session and desktop polish
GLLogin accepts Ctrl+Alt+Fn from every modifier state, hands the seat over cleanly and quarantines the console so a password cannot flash in the journal; Super+F10 quits the desktop even when a terminal has focus; panel tooltips and the calendar render correctly over X11 clients; and a startgldoze TTY starter with installer GPU detection ships for text-console starts.
-
31 October – 1 November 2026
This website: benchmarks and hourly data
The site gained a benchmarks page with FPS captures, a documented test system and cipher, compression and video-encode result matrices; the development-data refresh moved to hourly; and a freshness check alerts when the live page falls behind the generated data.
-
29 October – 1 November 2026
Automounter hardening
Encrypted partitions can be unlocked with a keyfile; mapper names stay unique when a disk is re-enumerated and stale mappings are never reused; USB-attached disks are treated as removable; EFI partitions are never offered; volumes that share a filesystem label stay distinguishable; and a helper mount opens Files when it finishes.
This list is written by hand and updated as work lands — like the milestones, it is never inferred from commit messages. The statistics, activity feed and chart on this page are generated from the public repositories.

Development milestones
Ten maintained workstreams and their current state. These statuses are decided and edited by maintainers — they are not inferred from commit messages, and no release deadlines are published.
-
Completed
Desktop and compositor foundation
Wayland desktop, compositor integration, shell surfaces, panels, overview, window rules, workspaces, session and lock screen are implemented and in daily use as the GLDoze desktop.
-
In progress
GPU and renderer support
OpenGL 4.6 rendering on NVIDIA, Intel and AMD hardware with multi-GPU selection and hybrid graphics handling; per-card compatibility work continues across driver generations.
-
In progress
Native application ecosystem
The application framework, plugin registry and shared window management are complete and in daily use; the ecosystem keeps growing with file manager, audio player, monitoring, terminal, game lobby, gallery and file synchronisation applications, now joined by the GLCrypt encryption manager.
-
Completed
GLML and Lua
GLML markup, scenes and the Lua scripting runtime are integrated into the desktop and its applications, with authoring and inspection tooling available in-tree.
-
Completed
Browser integration
The CEF-based browser is integrated into the desktop with accelerated Wayland OSR frames (EGL and DMA-BUF) and pinned, patched CEF builds; codec and compatibility work continues as separate tasks.
-
In progress
AI service infrastructure
Local AI service manager, profiles, worker backends, request routing and VRAM planning run on-device; policy is still being extracted from the older coordinators into independent modules.
-
In progress
Autonomous agent capabilities
Agent harness, agent sessions, visual inspection and tool execution are usable from the desktop today; safety boundaries, context policy and diagnostics are being hardened incrementally.
-
In progress
Installation and setup
Signed one-command installer, interactive setup menu and unattended preset path are published; dependency, NVIDIA driver, display manager and session coverage is still being broadened.
-
In progress
Documentation
Architecture, integration and tooling documentation lives in the docs repository and grows with each subsystem; user-facing guides and contributor onboarding remain the active focus.
-
Planned
Public testing and beta readiness
Broader public testing once install, upgrade and rollback paths are proven end to end on more hardware; no release date is committed and none is implied by this entry.
Milestones are maintained by hand in data/roadmap.json — they are never inferred from commit messages, and no release deadlines are published.

About this data
A scheduled Forgejo Actions workflow reads public repository data from git.gldoze.de, validates it, writes static JSON files and bakes the figures above into this page. The site itself stays fully static: no database, no server-side rendering, no browser-side credentials.
- Repositories tracked: gldoze/desktop, gldoze/setup, gldoze/docs, gldoze/cef, gldoze/asset-pack. The website repository's own deployment commits are excluded from desktop statistics.
- Commit totals cover the full default-branch history reported by the server; 7-day, 30-day, contributor and chart figures cover the fetched 12-week window (paginated and bounded).
- Only public repositories are read, e-mail addresses are never collected, and pull requests are excluded from issue counts.
- All timestamps are UTC. The figures above are refreshed every hour and carry their own generation time — they are never presented as real-time.
